Note from Intel's page (in link): drivers that can support this: Note that I can switch the HDMI cables and have the PCs drive the other monitors.

Left: Vaio Pro 13 driving 4K 28" monitor at full UHD resolution, right: Vaio Pro 11 driving a 24" HD monitor. Side-note - I can display on the 4K UHD 60" television the same way. There are still some great Black Friday deals left for 4K UHD monitors. I wouldn't recommend it for video or gaming, but it can display video (at lower fps) too. If it complaints about the bandwidth being too narrow, use a lower refresh rate for that resolution.

Install Intel's driver upgrade utility and upgrade to the latest driver for your PC.Īfter this, you can connect your 4K monitor over a normal HDMI 1.4 cable, and the laptop will detect the monitor, and (Intel's) display program will then after let you select the resolution that you added using the CustomModeApp.This works on basically all 'older' laptops. Note that this 'overdrive' also works on lower-res monitors, but you do loose 'pixels'. Without the 'workaround', I could only get 1920x1080 HD resolution from the PC. Eg., I can drive a 4K monitor at 3840x2160 UHD resolution at 25fps using HDMI 1.4 !!! There is however a very simple workaround, and you are not resolution limited. Intel has created the ability in their drivers for several years already, but the laptop manufacturers do not support display settings above HD. For some reason, i thought that for 4K displays, I had to upgrade my PCs, or otherwise had to insert resolution doublers for it, and use HDMI 2.0 or DisplayPort 1.0 or newer. Just something that I recently bumped into.
